We haven’t yet reached 2019, but that hasn’t stopped anime fans from getting excited about the countless new shows set to premiere next year. Popular series like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia will undoubtedly have new seasons, but when it comes to less popular shows, anime studios take a while to reveal what they’re working.
Luckily, there are a few studios that can’t wait to share their upcoming anime and movies with fans. Based on what we know so far, 2019 will be another awesome year full of new seasons for our favorite anime. Here are the eight anime we’re looking forward to in 2019.
PSYCHO-PASS: SINNERS OF THE SYSTEM (MOVIE TRILOGY)

Psycho-Pass, the dystopian series about a system that scans the mental state of its citizens, will get an anime film trilogy in 2019. Back in March, Fuji TV announced that the sci-fi series will receive three original movies under the Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System project.
The trilogy will explore three different “case files” following the series’ various main and supporting characters. The films — Case.1 Tsumi Crime and Punishment, Case.2 First Guardian, and Case.3 Onshuu no Kanata — will follow the TV series’ Inspectors and Enforcers, giving viewers a glimpse of what the characters have been up to since the events of the second season and movie.
THE PROMISED NEVERLAND

Manga fans couldn’t be more excited about one of the best shōnen horror series getting an anime adaptation in 2019. The Promised Neverland follows a group of orphans and their substitute mother, “Mama.” Mama’s love for them is undeniable. No child ever goes hungry or gets mistreated, and they all get adopted by the age of 12.
There’s a catch, however: The children can’t leave the orphanage before they’re adopted. This solitary rule doesn’t stop Emma and Norman from venturing outside and discovering the horrifying life that awaits them outside the orphanage. The children aren’t going to loving homes. They’re actually livestock for a mysterious race of demons. Now, the kids must devise an escape plan before they turn 12 years old.
CASTLEVANIA (SEASON 3)

Days after its Season 2 debut, Castlevania was renewed for a third by Netflix with a possible 2019 premiere date. The Season 2 finale saw Trevor and Sypha go on their own monster-hunting adventure, leaving a crying Alucard behind to take care of Dracula’s castle and the Belmont Hold.
In a recent interview, Castlevania’s showrunner and creator, Adi Shankar mentioned he’d like to adapt the videogame Symphony of the Night for a possible future season. In the game, Alucard rises from his slumber to explore Dracula’s castle, which reappeared after Belmont vanished. Only time will tell if Netflix and Shankar will be able to bring this storyline to life.
ONE-PUNCH MAN (SEASON 2)

Many fans thought that the second season of One-Punch Man would premiere in 2018. Then an online rumor dropped, suggesting that new episodes wouldn’t air until 2020, and fans were infuriated. Both theories were wrong. In August, VIZ Media, which secured the license for One-Punch Man, announced that the highly anticipated third season will premiere in April 2019.
But for now, there’s no additional information other than Chikara Sakurai (episode director: Food Wars! The Second Plate) taking the helm at J.C. Staff (Food Wars) instead of director Shingo Natsume and animation studio Madhouse (Death Note, Black Lagoon). We’ll discover what adventured await Saitama in 2019.
CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE RESURRECTION

Fans have been waiting over a decade for their favorite series to return. Finally, a sequel movie, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection, will premiere this upcoming February. The new film takes place several years after Lelouch‘s “Zero Requiem,” a plan that saw Lelouch die to usher in an age of peace. The new movie will explore the events following Lelouch’s death, including whether the world has changed for the better or fallen into total chaos.
Studio Sunrise will return to animate the original movie, and several voice actors will reprise their roles. Expect Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection to hit theaters in Japan this winter 2019.
KAKEGURUI: COMPULSIVE GAMBLER (SEASON 2)

After a successful first season, the high-stakes gambling anime Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler will return for a second season in 2019. The series follows the students of Hyakkaou Private Academy, a prestigious school populated by the offspring of powerful families in the political and financial world. But Hyakkaou isn’t like any other private school.
At night, it becomes a gambling den that deals with money, manipulation, and power. But when new transfer student Yumeko Jabami joins the action, she turns the school upside down just for the fun of it.
Despite being based on a manga, Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler surprisingly has an original ending. So, we don’t know what to expect in the new season — besides thrills and twists that’ll keep you glued to the screen.
KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS(MOVIE)

- Genre(s): Action, Drama, Fantasy, Horror
With Attack on Titan taking up all of Wit Studio’s time, the sequel of the post-apocalyptic series Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress took a back seat to the popular anime. But this spring, the show’s story will continue in movie form.
Araki Tetsurou (Attack on Titan, Death Note, and High School of Dead) is set to direct the new sequel film, which will focus on Mumei, one of the main characters of the original series. The story will take place six months after the anime’s TV finale, which saw an injured Ikoma and his friends leave the smouldering city of Kongokaku in the HayajiroKōtetsujō behind.
MOB PSYCHO 100 (SEASON 2)

- Studio: Bones
- Genre(s): Action, Comedy, Slice of Life, Supernatural
One-Punch Man isn’t the only ONE series that will return in 2019. Mob Psycho 100‘s second season will also debut next year. The action comedy series follows Shigeo Kageyama (called “Mob”), a 14-year-old boy with esper abilities. Based on what we saw in the Season 2 trailer, it appears Mob still has more to learn when it comes to controlling his amazing psychic powers.
And with a new girlfriend, it will become much more difficult for the young esper to keep his emotions under control. But that isn’t the only trouble heading Mob’s way. Supernatural threats threaten to push him to his limit. Fans can check out Mob Psycho 100’s new season in January 2019.
